We can do better. We have oversupply in much of the state. We are not all Stamford & Greenwich.

What a sad joke. Amazon could have put their HQ any where in the country and they choose 2 of the most expensive and densely populated areas of the country. If they wanted to make a statement and build good will they would have located the HQ in one of the depressed areas of the country. 50k employees can have a huge impact on an area.

AmaZOn also has at least 20 billion in cash on their balance sheet. They shouldn't be receiving a single dime from the tax payers. They can afford to pay for their own expansion.

Amazon is a business, and made a superb decision, as good will and make a statement would be reckless things to consider.

There is no reason corps should not receive incentives when they bestow upon a region their biggest asset-the ability to add jobs.

I am delighted they did so for NOVA, NYC, & Nashville today.

Great locations for a great corporation.

That is how you roll when yourself or a company has more money than God. You get someone else to pay for things, in this case the ratepayers of NY, NYC and perhaps USA as well.

To be fair Google has done quite a bit of expanding since arriving in NYC, and paid for on their own dime.

No offense but Newark is a hood with a corrupt entrenched government at that. Even Cory Booker legged it out of there soon as he could.

Things have gotten a bit better, but basically the place is what it is, and that won't change without some serious gentrification, the sort which would clear out 80% (or more) of what is there and start over.

Exactly!

As one has repeatedly stated, and is also being said in media, Amazon was going to locate the H2Q where it could find and or attract tech talent. There are only a handful of areas in USA which fit that bill.

The infrastructure of NYC (and Tri-State commuter area) suit tech firms like Amazon as it does financial and some other large companies. Everything from education, housing, night life, and other amenities already exist.

NY is a world class city with a diverse population and strong SJW (or whatever you want to call it), laws and such. It is pro-immigrant, LGBT, and etc.... All things that tech companies seem to espouse.

Locating in a depressed area for HQ2 would provide for a limited local talent pool to draw from, limited/non-existant access to reliable and well-served airports and public transportation systems, and access to basic limited infrastructure

Amazon is being responsible not to choose that route. It’s not its duty to do so, nor would be a wise choice.
It’s a publicly traded company and has a responsibility to its shareholders first and foremost. Might sound harsh, but it’s the truth.

Bezos personally though, on the otherhand, can follow the lead of the Carnegies of this country by making an everlasting positive impact on struggling communities throughout our country

Early crunched numbers put NYC taxpayers on the hook for nearly $50k for each Amazon HQ2 job. Given the company's enormous cash reserves a few voices already have begun wondering why Cuomo/New York is giving Amazon such huge incentives.
