Have been saying the best thing that could happen to Ct was for Amazon to pick Nyc.
He did though in a more diluted fashion. Ffld county is what it is due to proximity to Nyc. Thats it.
Ct doesnt have to give any tax breaks in this deal for Nyc. We were never a contender by the way to land them here in Ct.
You can debate all you want that Amazon and Google are all forever stuck in a 30something loop that forbids kids and Volvos its not true. Looked at another way if they hire all these people from other local companies in the area, those companies will have to rehire new talent from where?

Yeah are we missing the fact that in a way CT did get an Amazon HQ? Many of the new employees will probably live in Fairfield County. So we get their tax dollars without having to fork over millions in corporate welfare.

Doubt many live in FFC. Amazon hq > 40 hr job. FFC commute added to it = nightmare.

Any Amazon employees that live in CT and work in NY will be paying income tax to NYC and NY State. CT won't receive any tax gains.

Maybe we can argue that CT towns would get property tax, but that would be negligible.

Property tax, sales tax, DMV Reg, spending in local economies, contributing to property values

I do agree Ct never had a shot of making the Round of 20 cut.

I thought NY City tax was only for residents? If you live in NJ or CT, you pay NY State tax. Ditto people commuting from Long Island or Westchester. CT would collect resident income tax on any passive income. Just not on W-2 money.

Correct NYC tax is for residents of the city only.

Which for tax purposes is anyone who "resides" in NYC for 183 or more days per year. Which is why persons with multiple residences carefully parcel out and or monitor their time in the city to avoid being claimed as such. https://www.forbes.com/sites/robclar.../#1e9ca0204aac

This in turn explains why so many "homes in town" are largely empty most of the year, and or the growth of AirBnB. You either rent the place out (short stay), let family or friends stay there, or just let it remain empty when you're "in the country" or wherever else.
