From most places in West Hartford, a bus to the Univ of Hartford means you go to downtown Hartford and transfer to another bus route for the last 15 minutes.
Another plus to WH is the express bus to the train station in Hartford. From there you can go to Springfield, New Haven, etc. via train.

Might want to look at Newington and Wethersfield as well. Many schools in CT do have late buses for activities but you need to check. Also some highschools aren't all that close to transit.

Yes if he could get a job at the CT Science Center it would be ideal because it would be an easy single bus from there to multiple towns in greater Hartford including West Hartford.

As for Uber/Lyft, that works amazingly well if you need to go to the airport or a show or something, but it's not ideal as a twice daily commute solution unless you have lots of dough. Gets pretty costly.
