Moving towards more consumption based taxation is fine, something we should be doing, but not if you’re not only not going to be giving us tax relief elsewhere you’re going to be adding taxes all over the place! Stupid things like a cat tax? Also, give us a detailed breakdown of what the money is going to be used for. Are we going to increase already excessive DOT employee pay? What are the realistic maintenance and administrative costs going to look like? Stop using voodoo math with these things. The state should be looking for ways to decrease the cost of living in the state not making it more expensive. The cost of living and “bang for your buck” in government services gap between CT and states like Florida and North Carolina seems to be widening, as more baby boomers enter retirement the exodus is just going to get worse. CT has major medium to long term problems that are not being addressed.

I am not sure what you base your claim that DOT employees pay is excessive. It is comparable for the industry. Also many fo your questions are in the State budget. Have you ever looked at it? And what do you think "realistic maintenance and administrative costs" are? If you are basing this on that ridiculously simplistic study that claims Connecticut has high administrative costs for projects, you should realize that they did not consider that Connecticut has a very high number of future projects in the pipe line under Governor Malloy's Lets Go CT program so a lot of those costs are from the advanced planning and due diligence involved in every project, not just those here in Connecticut.

I would also be curious as to what you base your contention that government services gap between North Carolina and Florida and Connecticut are getting less/ The last I looked both health care and education in those states has not changed significantly. They both are pretty poor. Jay
