I just moved here and need to get service switched in my name but how do I go about it to get a lower rate from one of the many suppliers? I understand that UI is the primary service provider.

I believe studies have shown that those alternative power suppliers rarely save money over the long term. Sure they save you money initially but after their promotions end their rates are higher. Maybe others here have other suggestions. Jay

Coming from nyc I was a bit confused about this...I was told by a real estate agent I had to pick an supplier and 9cents a kilowatt was a considered an good rate but I read about companies jacking up the prices if you do not cancel in time..I locked in for 36 months my bill is far less than it was with con ed in the bronx

You have to provide the power supplier with your homes ui supply line number and lock in at lowest rate for how ever months they claim to give but like I said earlier they will jack up the price once your out the contract period
