We already have a horrific business climate ranking. This simply adds fuel to that fire, and destroys more economic opportunity in the process, by giving corps still one more reason to avoid Connecticut.

This is absolutely horrible. As the victim of someone charged with stalking and harassing, including making threats of violence and threats against my livelihood, I am vehemently against this. The defendant plead out and has since done the same to myself again and others in CT and other states. Based on how CT legislators continue to waste time on matters that don't need addressing, plus their tax and spend and anti-job policies, I suppose I am not surprised that they would be proposing doing yet another thing that hurts good CT residents and benefits those that don't deserve it.

As usual, Ct is more concerned about helping felons, vs not harming law-abiding citizens.

Anyone who thinks this is a great idea should do some research on recidivism rates.

Appalling.

I agree that this is a horrible idea so again, as I suggested with all of the other stupid Bills being proposed, reach out to your State Representative and State Senator to express your opposition to it. Jay

This should be called the "Hide your felon" bill, as that is the sole intent.

In Mass they did van the box but it backfired. You can't ask if someone has a record but applicants can say they have a clean record. Online searches are valid for public housing. Google doesn't forget. Heck newspaper archives go back easily on Google to 1970.

I wonder how that will impact Pistol Permits in CT.

I was thinking the same thing. Those who were previously unable to obtain a pistol permit will now be able to. Very stupid and not well thought out.

That's actually part of the reason for the bill I would imagine.
Recidivism rates go down when people can get jobs and have a place to live.

I don't agree with the wording of the bill as it stands, i think for certain crimes it shouldn't be expunged. But to act like recidivism rates have nothing to do with; the the conditions the prisoners are in during incarceration (and who they are around), the difficulty in finding meaningful employment, the difficulty in finding a place to live aren't huge factors is disingenuous at best.

It comes down to a fundamental difference in how we should treat people who commit a crime.
Do we want them to be punished while they serve their sentence, and then for the rest of their life. OR do we want them to be punished while they serve their sentence, and then make them a productive member of society (able to get a job etc)

This bill is trying to address the issue, I have no doubt it won't pass, but there needs to be a conversation about it in my opinion.
