hello all,
I am relocating to Bridgeport CT in a few weeks and I need recommendations on safe areas because I have a 10 year old boy who's going to be in 5th grade next school year. I am a single mother and I am looking for safe decent areas where I can find apartments not exceeding $1200.
Please help

For a 2BR in a safe area with decent schools, it’ll be a challenge. You may want to focus on Stratford. You could also extend up to towns like Ansonia.

Shelton and Milford would be ideal but finding a $1200 2BR won’t be easy.

Ok so then what areas are recommended? It doesn’t have to be a 2 bedroom apartment

I live in Trumbull which is the town north of Bridgeport. Trumbull is safe with very good schools. Trumbull let's homeowners put in-law/accessory apartments on their homes. They show up on craigslist from time to time but you need to keep looking. Here is an apartment in Trumbull on craigslist and I bet this is an in-law/accessory apartment.

There are many safe areas in Bridgeport itself, it’s just that schools there do not perform well. That is why people are recommending the suburbs.

Safe neighborhoods in Bridgeport include Black Rock west of Ellsworth Street; the North End, north of Capital Avenue and west of Main Street; Beardsley Park, north of Boston Avenue; and Treeland. I am unsure what you will find in your price range in these areas. Good luck, Jay

I would stay away from Bridgeport. I was robbed at gun point there many years ago and my friend who I was with was shot twice. I work for the Connecticut State Police and I can assure you Bridgeport is a place to stay clear of. It id ranked in the top 5 most dangerous places in the United States and has been for many years. Taxes are extremely high there as well. Good luck in your search. Matthew

I have been told the same thing, many times over many decades, by both local and other state police.

OP has a ten year old child, so safety is top of the list for requirements.

Sorry for your personal experiences there. I had a relative in Bridgeport robbed and physically beaten on his own steps, 3 different times over a decade. Once with his dog there, who was also beaten with a gun.
