Guildford you might like.

Mystic area really doesn't shut down in the winter anymore. that's going to be your best bet for year round amenities with somewhat reasonable housing costs.

Or for an oddball shout out you have New London south of the hospital.

If your OK with being up the river a bit Essex is nice but gets pricey the closer to the town center you get.

Depends on what you want.

Yes, and you don't really hear the term anymore. It's something that really old people like me remember from TV commercials as a kid in the 70s - 80s.

You also hear it used in the regional news media (television, radio, newspapers, etc.). Jay

This doesn't look like New England to you? Okie.

What is near/around those pictures?

IMO North Stamford where I grew up has more New England Charm than Milford.

That doesn't mean I don't think that Milford is not a great place.

Look at these isolated pictures from Stamford one of the biggest cities in CT. They say New England charm too.

BTW, the way a place LOOKS is not the only thing that denotes New England Charm. It is also the feel and attitudes of the residents. Milford like Fairfield County is full of New Yorkers. For me personally I don't really feel "New England" or "CT" charm until I am pretty far away from Fairfield County. Milford borders Fairfield County. When I go up near Hartford that has way more New England charm that any place in Fairfield County or Milford.

I wouldn't know anymore. My television viewing is almost non-existent now except for Yankee games streamed on the phone.

I agree. To me it's Tri-State and that includes Stamford, Milford, Norwalk, Darien what have you (Rowayton is not a real town). Its not meant to disparage anything.

I've always thought the Q Bridge was the boundary between feeling like New England and feeling like NY Metro. Guilford feels very much like postcard New England, Milford feels more like Westchester County or New Jersey.

In and around Milford Green is all pretty charming. Definitely a New England feel. That area is also adjacent to downtown which also has New England charm. As I said too the neighborhoods along the beach are also very similar to New England beach towns.

It sounds like you are judging Milford more by the Route 1 commercial district and maybe the subdivision or apartment/condo areas around town. I understand that. I hate to say this but you do find similar type development in other towns that most would consider to be New England. Branford has a lot of big box stores and lots of bland strip shopping centers along or near a Route 1 as well as condos and subdivisions. Route 1 in Guilford and Madison and pretty much the entire length from New Haven to Rhode Island does too. Most of these towns also have subdivisions and condo complexes all around the town as well. You don’t judge the New England charm of them based on that. Milford should be no different. Jay
