I really don’t know much about Waterbury but can say with confidence that it doesn’t have a strikingly high crime rate compared to the other larger CT cities. It does have crime and is mostly a lower working class, blue collar city with a lot of issues in the schools.

I also am not familiar enough with Waterbury to comment on this location but we do have a regular poster from the area who may be able to help. Hopefully he will respond soon. Jay

I don’t think that’s a fair statement. I know Waterbury to have many safe, working class neighborhoods.

I agree. Like every city, Waterbury has its good areas and it’s bad. Like I said I don’t know it well enough to say if that area is good or bad. Jay

It's Waterbury, so it's not going to be the place of your dreams. You probably already know that. There are some part of Waterbury that are better then others, but that is in the proximity of some of the tougher areas though not necessarily the worst part of it. At the same time, Waterbury, despite its flaws is not a bad place either, there are worst options in CT. It is the type of city that if one has street smarts and can appreciate diversity, then they may be perfectly fine. Schools are real drag there, though.

Hillside Avenue is pretty much in the heart of the ghetto in Waterbury. It's the one of the worst areas in a city that is very bad overall. Shootings happen on that street maybe twice per year.

Unless you need to be in Waterbury or the immediate area for some reason, there are better towns in which to find low(er) rent.

Try New Britain and Meriden, altho both cities still have sketchy areas, these cities are not as bad as Waterbury.

What about neighboring Naughatuck? It’s pretty safe overall and affordable. Jay
