Greenwich to NYC is not that bad at all. You get a jam usually in Westchester near the Mobil on Hutch, then stop and go on West Side Highway. Well, caveat being an east side commute is wayyy harder.

Edit to add: Norwalk too.
+1 but even Westport is pushing it commute wise. I did a few dry runs for that commute when I briefly considered commuting from my parents’ house 2 years ago. It was a solid 85 minutes door to door (by the express train) and I work near Rockefeller (<10 minute walk from GCT).

When I visit on the weekends it’s easily 95+ minutes. Off-peak trains are painfully slow.

No offense but how Is that possible? Every time we commute from Danbury to NYC it takes us literary an hour to reach the Bronx from Danbury. I know personally other people that commute to NYC and it takes them an hr and a half and that's with traffic. It's not the best commute but to say Danbury is not part of the NYC metro is absurd.

Commuting to the Bronx and commuting to Manhattan are two completely different things

Just because one person does it (or even 100) isn't enough. It's a tiny fraction of the population still.

Stop the foolishness Danbury is part of the NY metro area. Its definitely not within the Boston sphere of influence. Its right on the border of NY state for crying out loud! At least 1/3 of Danbury residents moved there from NYC or westchester. And some ppl here dont know what theyre talking about quite a few ppl in Danbury work in NY City. U can catch the train (sometimes directly) from Danbury station or u can drive out to Southeast and catch it there. Danbury is closer to NY City than Poughkeepsie and possibly closer than Middletown NY. On off peak hrs you can get into the Bronx within 40 minutes. And whoever said New fairfield is kore connected to NYC than Danbury is talking silly. New Fairfield almost feels like Litchfield County....

I dont know how this became a debate or why this question was even asked smh

I said the overwhelming majority of New Fairfield residents are from NY, with the Bronx, Queens, or Westchester being most common in my experience, so yes in that sense it is more connected to NY than other Danbury area towns.

Of course it doesn’t “physically” feel like NYC (that would be silly to suggest), but the people “culturally” sure are. More so than Danbury itself.

Keep in mind that up until the 1970s there were few year round residents in town. And the ones who did come, came from NY. In my experience, NF is viewed as too far off the beaten path for most people native to CT/the Danbury area, and they’re right, it truly is — it’s physically cut off from the rest of the State by the lake (Brookfield at its closest point is probably 1/8 mile from New Fairfield, but it will take you 25 minutes to get there because you have to drive *around* the lake to get there (weird fact, there still stands a firehouse in Brookfield, that used to be in New Fairfield - but then the lake came in in the 1920s and cut it off from the rest of the town. New Fairfield eventually ceded town property on the other side of lake to The town of Brookfield. But there were a couple of years in the late 1920s/early 30s that school children on the Brookfield side were shuttled over by boat to attend town schools in New Fairfield.

It’s perfectly situated though for people from NY who are looking for an affordable alternative to city living or Westchester living, and it remains a popular choice for them.

You’re not reaching midtown by car from Danbury in 90 minutes at rush hour. Maybe if you leave at 5AM, and go home after 7PM. Still, a very stressful way to commute.

Source: I used to drive to midtown from Danbury all the time.

I never said midtown. i said that you can reach the bronx from Danbury in 1 hr and you most definitely can make it in an hr if you dont hit traffic all times of the day. to me the bronx and NYC are different but if you technically go to the bronx your in NYC. That's how I view it. Still it is a very stressful commute I agree on you there.

About a year ago, I met and became acquainted with a girl from the Bronx whose parents have a lake house in New Fairfield. Although I have never visited New Fairfield, I have visited Danbury and, judging by the local accents I heard, Danbury is still squarely in Connecticut, despite its proximity to New York State and the high proportion of ex-New Yorkers living in the city. In my opinion, people in Bridgeport and Stamford seem to possess more of the New York City accent and a dialect than people in Danbury, which is definitely a Western New England city by every accord and more similar to Hartford and Waterbury than Bridgeport or Stamford.
