Nice for us property owners. Bad for buyers.

It’s funny because 34% is the number I get based on recent sales in my neighborhood. Homes that were fetching $375,000 are now getting over $500,000. That’s insane.

I really knew the market was crazy when one 30 year old house in completely original condition; meaning 30 year old paint, vinyl and carpet, original cheap builder grade appliances and light fixture, no central AC, no sprinkler system, no basement rec room, no enlarged deck, no landscaping, etc., sold in a couple days at $100,000 over what similar homes were getting a year earlier. That's right. It's how they want them now. They want to do their own renos with their own touches. Everyone talks about this. Last year they only wanted turnkeys. RE changes like the weather.

What I'm seeing in Cheshire is the house prices aren't going up anymore at the rate they were. The prices have leveled off at this higher area, but now I'm seeing on occasion houses having price reductions before selling, so they just may be priced to high to begin with. There are good homes that are renovated which do still sell over asking.

There are bidding wars on rentals in the stub. Now is the time for patience for those of us hoping to buy a first home.

We keep talking about people moving from NYC to Fairfield County. I have been thinking maybe people are also moving into the Hartford and northeast area from Boston? Is that possible?

In Glastonbury, I have over the course of the past year met a handful of people that moved to town from the general NYC area (suburban NY and NJ). West Hartford has also seen an influx. It is all anecdotal, but I have not met one person in the area who moved from Boston (but I have met two families who moved in from Texas!).
