It seems pretty disjointed for the state to give each town the ability to decide about mask mandates. I see Stamford just implemented an indoor mask mandate that goes into effect Thursday, regardless of vaccination status. Meanwhile, the mayor of my town (Darien) has announced a mask mandate will not be put into place [for now]. Was in the city over the weekend and saw all the signs going up for requiring proof of vaccination to enter. What a mess this will be..

The problem is (and has always been) we’re being selective with which “data & facts” we’re believing, and this holds true even in the presentation of such by media outlets and politicians. Presenting conclusions based on that can be dangerous (and has proven to be thus far).

But at least we agree that you’re drawing your own conclusions, which I believe is based on biased and faulty information.

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle...ng-2021-07-05/

Vaccine effectiveness in preventing both infection and symptomatic disease fell to 64% since June 6, the Health Ministry said. At the same time the vaccine was 93% effective in preventing hospitalizations and serious illness from the coronavirus.

I assume this is among healthy young people because it's never 93% effective in older people anyway.

https://www.reuters.com/business/hea...se-2021-08-05/

The Moderna data compares favorably to that released by Pfizer and BioNTech last week in which they said their vaccine's efficacy waned around 6% every two months, declining to around 84% six months after the second shot.

Moderna SEEMS to be holding out better but does anyone really, truly know? (No.) On older and at risk people who were vaccinated first, it wouldn't have ever been in the 90%s anyway and now immunity is fading. Just some factual data.

I think it’s across all age groups?

Otherwise we’d probably have more than .6 average daily deaths in CT with the case spike we have.

Even the national numbers are low. NYC was several times the 661 national toll daily, for weeks on end.

Variant is a lot of cases, but far less deaths thanks to the herd immunity of not just vaccines but those who caught covid and had their internal defenses take over.

I still can't believe getting the vaccine made the spread happen more.

People thinking the shot would allow them to be more free when meanwhile they are the ones spreading it because they took their masks off.

The point isn't that there'd be no Delta if all of the unvaxxed were masked, it's that there'd be considerably less of it.

Get a vaccine and carry on. That's the best we can do. Masking and shutting down is a bandaid and causes other significant problems such as no money to buy food, pay rent/mortgage, and other essential expenses.

I just heard "an expert" recommending to avoid unnecessary trips and contact with others as numbers increase. Huh? What are we supposed to do crawl in a bunker with some MREs and come back out in 2030? So many people, including the young, are still suffering the adverse effects on their mental health due to limited contact for a good part of last year. Many were just starting to get back to a more normal life. We can't return to Fall/Winter/Spring 2020/2021.

Somewhat less.

It may slow the spread but this will eventually find every last person to infect eventually with its contagiousness. Given CT is nowhere near hospital capacity, I truly do not know the point of kicking the can down the road slightly. Let’s just continue the vaccine campaign.

People are sick of it all. In a state like CT where the numbers that count are low, I hope we can soon move on and learn to live with it.
