NY hospitals are using it too.

I believe this article will be very prescient.

https://www.statnews.com/2020/03/17/...reliable-data/

Based on Princess cruise (the only reliable general population sample available), and extrapolated against US population adjusted for age, the death rate is 0.125%.

This is more and more looking like a severe flu that spreads like wildfire.

Serious, but not nearly as bad as media hype.

Exactly. A very contagious flu. Hardly worthy of shutting down life as we know it.

The media is fully enjoying this though, because, Trump.

Italy reports 6,557 new cases and 793 new deaths in 24hrs!

A total of 53,578 cases and 4,825 deaths.

I feel so bad. That's just horrible and continuing.

Exactly what I have been saying all along.... We are acting like it's bubonic plague!

Live in the vicinity.
That's like in Westchester, where a lot of the numbers are related to the funeral and bat mitzvah the guy in New Rochelle went to...

Glad to hear it, I think Westchester spiked early because of "New Rochelle guy" (see above). The 5 boros of NYC though I think are going to keep increasing their rate for awhile.

The current world population is about 7.8 billion people. 13,000 people in the entire world have died from COVID-19 so far. We really need to keep that in perspective.

The gist of what we're trying to do here is simply not overwhelm health care systems which would lead to more deaths, more instability, and more panicked people.

It is worse and I agree about the idea that you can pass it on while not feeling sick and unwittingly kill and elderly or immunocompromised system. And for that reason I even think cancelling all the mass events and pro sports is not overdone. But now we are almost eliminating civilization at large and asking to live like cavemen long term which to me will produce more casualties than the disease itself. If this were bubonic plague where not only does everyone easily contract it, but literally half of them or more die then yeah this would all make sense to me. Even Ebola if it had truly spread worldwide might have been dangerous enough to do these drastic steps.

I understand but both health systems and a lot more are going to be overwhelmed if we do what we're doing for more than a month if that.

If we didn’t do anything death rate would of been higher and cases would be over 1 million we better than last 100 years.
