I doubt this will be the end of it. Gangs will keep retaliating.

And this is how we got to the bitterly divided, polarized and hateful country we are today (sigh!)

Really?

Just going to the south end of Bridgeport is a high risk endeavor even before this incident.

Yes, the South and East ends are the higher crime zones. This is not a big secret.
The North end and Black Rock are widely known as the safest areas.

I guess I meant to say the southern section of Bridgeport except the Black Rock area. I go to the Black area and I feel safe. I go into Bridgeport to shop on Main Street all the way down to Saint Vincent's and I feel safe. I feel safe in most of Bridgeport frankly. The geographical area where I DO NOT feel safe in Bridgeport is rather small actually.

But let's face it. Many of our CT cities have some very bad areas. That is why some CT cities end up on the cities with the worst violent crime lists.

Urban cities generally have specific unsafe/crime ridden areas. However, if you think your husband is taking a huge risk by showing up to jury duty at the Bridgeport courthouse, then yes. It smells of suburban panic to me. Most homicides committed in Bridgeport, Hartford, etc. are trouble looking for trouble, not innocent victims caught in the crossfire. Is there a chance of something happening? Sure. But life is inherently risky. Actual chances of a juror (or court clerk, administrative assistant, other innocent bystander) being gunned down at the courthouse? I would say pretty darn slim.

I’m glad to hear that. Bridgeport has a lot to offer. Like every city in our country, there are good and bad areas. I judge the areas of the city by my elderly aunt. I ask does she go there or would she hesitate to be in this area. Like you said Black Rock and North Main Street are very safe and they offer a lot. I’d even say that Main Street is safe down to Capital Avenue. Even south of that is fine during the day. Madison Avenue and Park Avenue are also fine. Downtown is also safe as are Beardsley Park/Boston Avenue and Treeland. That’s about 60% of the city really. Jay

What's wrong with the White area?

I walk around downtown Bridgeport almost every weekday. It's not great but I've never felt unsafe, besides the crazy drivers. Don't think I'd feel the same at night. On the other hand it's fine to label this shooting as targeted but the bullets don't know that and the shooters are often indiscriminate.
