We are thinking of relocating to Fairfield, Trumbull, Easton this summer from Colorado. What is the status of the accounting/finance job market in CT? New York City will not be an option. I am a CPA with 16+ years of experience including a start with a Big 4 accounting firm.
I am originally from Stamford and I now live in Trumbull. I have lots of friends and relatives who are accountants and CPA's. Most work in the Stamford area. I have never known any of them having a hard time finding a job in southwestern Fairfield County in the greater Stamford and Norwalk area. None of them have needed to go work in NYC if they didn't want to and are able to stay in CT for their jobs. The ones that want to make the bigger money do commute into NYC.
Corporate accounting roles seem to be prevalent in most major metros. I would imagine most of the corps based in Stamford and SW CT have substantial finance and accounting depts.
Check on Linkedin and Indeed
All four of the Big 4 have offices in Stamford FYI. Corporate finance/accounting is in demand, but some major companies decamping Connecticut has decreased the options for these types of jobs. If you can work in the alternatives industry (hedge funds, private equity) than FFC is a major center for it and pays significantly better.
I work in Accounting and Financial Reporting and have for 30 or so years. The job market is pretty dry in the Hartford area it seems to me, but down past New Haven - Fairfield County and Westchester County - seems to be pretty strong right now. If I search indeed.com for jobs, I get a ton more jobs in the SW part of the state compared to the Hartford area - 5-10-20 years ago, it was a lot more balanced.
