We live in Trumbull and my husband goes to westchester regularly. If you travel off peak or reverse commute it’s not so bad. Easton would be better especially lower Easton closer to the roads. I would look at that. Commute could run you 1.5 to 2 hours with traffic or bad weather.

Thanks everyone for the input! The job is in Port Chester, and I am now looking more into Putnum County. I saw somewhere that if I live in CT and work in NY, I would have to file taxes for both. Anyone have knowledge/insight of this?

@StepfordCT, I do like the renting idea, I am just having a hard time finding somewhere to accept my pets but its not totally off the table.

Yes, you file in both but don't report any income in CT.

You don’t pay double taxes. You’ll wind up paying zero CT income taxes since NY taxes are a bit higher.

Ridgefield and New Fairfield remain good options for a Port Chester commute.

Another option would be living on/near the New Haven line if a train commute is an option. Trumbull, Shelton, Milford. Only downside is a transfer is required at Stamford. It would be about an hour train commute.

I’ll second that Ridgefield and New Fairfield are still good options for work in Port Chester.

If the job is walkable to the station in Port Chester, then Fairfield becomes an option too. Maybe Milford.
