Yes. I agree. However, the answer isn't to write off those kids and throw them into the dumpster. There are interventions that have been demonstrated to work.

We dump insane money into these public schools in impoverished areas. What do we get for it? 10% proficiency in reading, 5% in math. The kids simply don’t give a crap and don’t have a father at home to make them give a crap and that’s the core issue here.
The cost of incarceration is approaching $65K yearly per inmate. I'd much rather pay for more intervention in childhood and less prison in adulthood.

I didn't give a crap either when I was 15. However, I was at Staples in Westport and a lot of adults did. We can't rebuild a family structure, but, we most certainly can do more for at-risk youth in Bridgeport.

You proved my point. 14% graduated and 16% moved on to other universities. That's great. They are all on their way to a productive middle class life in accounting, marketing, tech, etc and someday a nice tidy home off of Main St in Stratford, western Bridgeport, eastern Fairfield, Milford, Shelton, Trumbull, Seymour, West Haven on and on name the place. It's there for the taking, it's practically free. YOU JUST HAVE TO WANT IT! Good for them.
No one NEEDS to live in Compo and Coleytown. Its not a privilege.
