But it seems a very unique CT thing, and it is not good or bad, just unique.
Except it is not unique to Connecticut. It is the same in Rhode Island and Massachusetts as well. I’m not even sure it’s different in New York.

I’m not sure why you think it could be argued. Beaches are public where the states have bought them. Connecticut does not have large beaches that could be bought in one piece. It would involve buying hundreds of properties which would be expensive. Jay

Madison has Madison Beach Hotel and Guilford has Guilford Mooring, Lobster Pound, Pa’s Place, and I’m sure Stone House will be replaced.

Is Mystic worth it in terms of taking a vacation? If so, what would be some things to check out in the area?

Mystic is a good day trip or 1-2 night stay as a base, I wouldn’t call it a “vacation” destination. It’s wonderful on a nice day to walk around, go downtown to the drawbridge, eat outdoors. Mystik Village is a lot of local, quirky shops, fun to visit and the aquarium and seaport are big draws. Last I heard aquarium is expensive but worth it if have kids.

I agree. There’s a few things to do in Mystic but I wouldn’t say it’s enough for more than a couple days. There’s the aquarium and the seaport. Downtown is nice to walk around but only for a half day. The Nautilus Submarine is interesting too. If you want Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos aren’t far if you want to add them in. Jay

No, not in the slightest, but a great day trip or an overnight (1 night tops), absolutely.

Agreed, but you could make a longer trip out of the area. Too many people think it’s just Mystic.

But it’s actually Stony Creek to Newport. That whole coastline is full of amazing things to do.

Thimble Island Tour, Guilford Green Walk and house tours, Madison Beach Hotel for a drink, Essex downtown and the Griswold Inn, Chester center, Goodspeed Opera, Gillette Castle, Rocky Neck, Fenwick, Mystic, Stonington Borough, Watch Hill, Block Island, Narragansett, Newport.

Just a few spots to make a nice long weekend or even week itinerary.

Hard to argue. Impossible actually.
It's not on the top of peoples' lists but it damn well should be.
