Hi, anyone familiar with Fairfield know if the neighborhoods that run along the Mill River off of Mill Plain Road (Pell Meadow, Duck Farm Rd, Millspaugh..in those areas) flood often? I know they are required to pay flood insurance. If you own a home there or know anyone that does, is it a constant nightmare or rarely any issues? Thanks!
I had family that lived in that area (Mill Plain) for decades and they never had an issue but they weren’t directly on the river. I still don’t remember the neighborhood having an issue. I think one time the Mill Plain Road bridge was under water and the homes closest to the river were flooded. As ProudFairfielder said, it depends on how close to the river you are.
I do suggest you do your own due diligence on this. Go into Town Hall and talk to the staff there. They should be able to tell you where flooding has occurred in the past and what the flood elevation was. That can help tell you how vulnerable a home is. You should call them in advance. You may need an appointment to go in these days. Good luck, Jay
