For the fourth year in a row, New Haven’s Frank Pepe’s Apizza has been named the No. 1 pizza in the country. I will admit it’s good but some people will argue that Sally’s, Modern, Zuppardi’s or Roseland is better. Some swear by Colony. So which pizza is the best? Is it really the best in America? Let the debating begin. Jay

Don't think so, The report is coming from Ct. Personally I think his pizza is average.. I've had better in NY,NJ, and IL. Sals in Mamaroneck Blows Pepis doors off. They have the best Sicilian pie around. Something that you will never find in CT.

I'm not sure but I will offer an unpopular opinion: NY style pizza isn't the best. Give me a thick crust any day.

The best in America, overall. Hands down.

That said, you have to know where to look - there are plenty of junk pizza places in CT. But the best in CT is far better than the best anywhere else.

Zuppardis! in West Haven, wow, what a pie! Outstanding treat on the way home this past winter after a Stratton trip.

Colony!! who does pizza better than the Irish! I have to say the Stub is lacking in good pizza.

I've had the local favorites around Los Angeles (yes, not really known for pizza), Cincinnati and Chicago. New Haven beats those, in my opinion.

Deep dish pie can be good, but it's an entirely different food than the thin crust pizza we've got in CT. I don't think we should compare those two, and if we did, the thin crust would still be better.

I like Pepe's... best anywhere? Who knows. They sure are good, though.

I am doing the keto diet right now, I had better stop thinking about this.

Phoenix has a place that gives New/West Haven a run for it's money. Beats anything in LA and Stub,CT.
Pepe's is pretty damn good, too, agreed.

Well unpopular in this forum, but....

I agree with you but I'm sure everyone here will think I'm biased

But comparing NY to CT pizza is like comparing apples and oranges. Both are really good but different, I'll even admit that my own bias is because I'm more "used" to NY pizza but I love Pepe's and have been to and enjoyed Sally's and some of the other New Haven joints. It's not like comparing pizza in NY to pizza in California....

It's not fair to compare deepdish to New Haven style pie. Different experiences entirely. I think the single best pizza in America is Pepe's white clam pie, but if I want red pizza, I'll take Sally's.

When we are talking about "Best Pizza in America" for a region or city, are you comparing the best of each city or the overall pizza picture, ie ratio of really good places to mediocre or bad pizza and the standards you average person holds for their pizza? I think this is where CT shines. Other cities my have spots as good or better than New Haven's elite, but there are so damn many good spots in this state. Compare that to to Boston, where I lived until recently. There are a few excellent places, but they are completely outnumbered by the mediocre ones. I had 20 pizza places within 10 minutes of my house and none were as good as the Deluca's in Killingworth or Grand in Madison (never mind Sally's.)
