Are there any bad areas of Greenwich?

I found a small 1BR/1BA in a private residence near Stone Ave & Hamilton and it's only 1 mile to the train station (20 min walk?), about 2.7 miles from Port Chester for major shopping and 7.5 miles from Stamford if I choose to drive to work. Also...much closer by train to NYC where my son lives. Surprisingly, rent is the same as the place in Norwalk. Granted, it's not the most stunning place I've seen with tons of amenities - but it would work until I get my feet on the ground.

I would suggest that you attempt to verify the legality of the apartment. It's been in the news recently that there has been a surge in illegal units. The most basic thing that you could check would be the # of electrical outlets and their locations in the apt. Also, checking the # of meters and mailboxes at the property are also good indicators of the true occupancy level of a property.

Any idea how to check the legality. I know it's been rented (for years) before and is actually a garage converted into an apt - similar to what I lived in here in Phoenix while my house was being built. At this point, it's impossible to check the number of outlets; just exactly what will this indicate? As for utilities - they are included, so I doubt there is a separate meter box.
