New Yorkers moved to neighboring states
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/mo...3bd0072b&ei=19

"While the largest share of people leaving New York left for Florida (91,201), many moved to neighboring states. New Jersey saw the second largest influx of New Yorkers last year (75,103), followed by Connecticut (50,670) and Pennsylvania (44,807)."

This is not shocking to me in the least. Interesting to see the numbers.

So out of those states, which have much bigger populations, CT had by far the biggest gain adjusted for population.

I'm not surprised by that. Many times the Orlando area feels like an extension of New York but with mostly stucco buildings in pastel colors surrounded by palm trees. lol Not hard at all to meet people and when they are asked from where they moved to, a very common response is somewhere in New York. At other times they could be born in Orlando to one or both parents from New York. The New York vibe must be greater in South Florida.

Regarding the Connecticut numbers of New Yorkers recent transplants, they amount to 19% of the 4 states mentioned there. While not most, it's a significant percentage. I bet most of the Connecticut bound types settled in Fairfield County and to a lesser extent New Haven county.

Yeah but not really that surprising given NY borders both NJ and CT. FL is 1,000 miles away. I’d say the number that moved to FL is more eye popping given its distance.

It’s pretty insane how almost everyone in my area of FL seems to have a NY accent.

Yes, but a flight from the NYC Metro airports to Orlando and south (the Florida New Yorkers are moving to, the Orlando area is among the most northern limit - ex. the panhandle Florida isn't the Florida of the New Yorkers) is about 2 hours. Most people that travel from NYC Metro to Florida do so by air, so for many it's "1,000 miles away," but timewise it isn't that far. The amount of flights that leave to and arrive from Florida on a daily basis in all the major airports in NYC Metro (including Westchester County Airport) is insane. It's basically another expressway, just in the air. lol

In CT, and you know this well, a person can literally eat breakfast in their CT home and in the same day they are eating lunch somewhere in Florida. This is especially true if they live close to Westchester Country Airport. Possibly holds true for those close to the New Haven airport now that Avela does the trip from there to FL.

Well yes of course, but it’s still a 2+ hour flight away vs a few minute drive over the border.
