Looking to help out a friend...two recent college graduates have landed jobs in the Hartford area insurance industry. They are looking for a 2 bedroom apartment/condo in either Glastonbury or West Hartford. They have been searching websites (i.e. www.apartments.com) without much luck. Is it better to contact local realtors that may have rentals available? Does anyone in this forum have any ideas?

Not sure why you don't have any luck on Websites, I see plenty of listings on the well known rental websites.
I personally use apartmentfinder.com

I have found apartment complex websites to be helpful if you are looking at a corporate type place managed by a property management company. If you are looking for a local person renting out their own place, then that is a different story. Regardless, unless I were looking to rent a single family home, I wouldn't bother with an agent because it just isn't necessary in this area. What is the budget? Rentals are not cheap in the Hartford area and their budget will get them much further in other towns. However, if their budget is larger than mine was post-college, it may not matter to them.

What s their budget? That may be why the OP is not finding places. West Hartford and Glastonbury are two of the priciest rental communities in greater Hartford. 2 bedroom apartments are not cheap.

You might check the Glastonbury Citizen for places to rent. There are listings there occasionally. One more affordable complex they might consider is Griswold Gardens on Griswold Street. It’s a safe area and the apartments are more affordable than the ones in the center of town or the newer complexes.

If this is still too much, they might want to look in other less expensive towns like Wethersfield, Rocky Hill, Cromwell, Middletown or Newington. These don’t necessarily have the same desirability as West Hartford or Glastonbury, but they are generally cheaper. Good luck, Jay

Budget is between $1,800 - $2,000 a month for a 2-bedroom apartment/condo which should make affordability not much of an issue for places in Glastonbury...West Hartford might be a stretch with that budget...was able to find good information from FB feedback instead of "blind" searches on generic websites...thanks for everyone's help!

Thanks for the tip on Griswold Gardens!

No problem. Another complex I see that has 2 bedroom apartments in that price range is Addison Mill Lofts. It is the conversion of a beautiful old mill into apartments. Also in the center is Glastonbury Center and Colonial Village. These are older Garden style apartments that are right near restaurants, stores and Whole Foods. They aren’t as modern but they are still nice. Good luck. Jay

Yeah I was going to recommend Colonial Village. I lived there. Nice apartments and awesome location within walking distance to Glastonbury Center. More affordable than Addison Mill Lofts I believe.

I randomly found this website which seems to have a lot of West Hartford listings:
