I know you guys are gonna love this.

Vice President Harris asked Lamont if the school could be used to house unaccompanied minor migrant children. Lamont hasn't decided yet. Southbury training school was also mentioned.

I'm sure everyone here is going to contact Lamont;s office and their state reps to support this proposal.

It sounds like a good idea. Assuming the facilities have been maintained, it's already set up for children. Having migrant children there rather than juvenile offenders sounds like an improvement.

Support? Who's paying for this? I support not letting people in illegally. I'd be happy to support increased border controls.

It looks like Lamont says Connecticut plans to make a formal recommendation by next week.

Alright, I knew this was coming. The purpose of this forum is to discuss Connecticut and only Connecticut. It is not to discuss the merits, issues or flaws in our country’s immigration policy. There are other forums for that. I am deleting all posts that do not specifically apply to Connecticut. If the off topic discussion continues I will close the thread so please stick to only the topic of the OP. JayCT, Moderator

Middletown may be a good choice considering Wesleyan has a student body committed to social justice and many international students. The university has a history of students teaching inmates and involvement in the community.

I knew you guys wouldn't disappoint. I'm more surprised that the news story said long lane school closed in 2018. I thought it closed in 2012.

Not when the juvenile offenders are out on the streets committing crimes without being held accountable for their actions.

I’m sure the federal government will pay to use this abandoned facility. Since it’s sitting vacant right now, why not let them use it. It will bring jobs to our state and help solve a problem at the border so why not? Better than just letting the building rot. There’s already a couple of old buildings on that campus doing that. We don’t need more. Jay

Yeah, but you know that ain’t changing anytime soon. I believe there are a couple other vacant facilities that we can use should the state wake up and address the juvenile crime problem. Until then, this may be a good use. Jay
