This is the first I heard of this one, the state is getting ready to give each child on Medicaid a Bond that would be worth $11,000 when they turn 18. What do you think? Jay

If the money is limited to higher education or starting a business at age 18, it might be a cheap way to give kids a start upon reaching adulthood.

I support the idea, but the age should be higher - 22, maybe 25. Piles of pitfalls with handing a 18 yo a lump sum like that, including parents making the kids turn over the check to them. I once had a parent use their kids ssn to open accounts snd ruined their credit at 14. If he was getting a check like that at 18, I would be “give me the check or get out.” At 18, that money would carry him 6 months max. By early 20s, it might actually do some good.

I'd limit it to a higher education voucher.

It appears they’d be handing an 18 year old a wad of cash (correct me if this is untrue).

Gee, what could go wrong?

Ah, nothing like an 18 year old frontal lobe. Why not
BBS rims. Are those still a thing? Yokahama low profiles. Some Doug Thorleys maybe. Louder the better
A Suzuki GSXR 1200R, Yoshi pipes, again the louder the better.
Maybe buy mom something for her 30th.
Lots of options

This is the same demo that usually gets free tuition at state schools already.

Also the State is Us. We are giving the money.
It's just another tax.

Hasn't anyone figured out that $11k in 18 years will be worth ~$2k in todays dollars?
That's using the REAL rate of inflation of over 10% according to the Chapwood Index... and everyone I know.
So it will make NO difference (except buy some good dope) because it's chicken feed!
