Here in my NW of Boston town, there has been a CFA inside the mall for over 20 years. It's a pain to go to if that's all you want and they won't open a second location anywhere in town to protect that operator.
Really? I learned of CFA (which I've only been to a couple of times in my life since I don't live that near one) through a friend in the Philly area awhile back and was curious and looked it up and noticed at the time there were none north and east of the NJ suburbs of Philly except for an odd one that was part of the NYU campus. It could be 20+ years since they expanded into the rest of the Northeast but I'll be damned.....I didn't think it was that long ago. I was working in Danbury when they opened the one there which I thought was the first one this far north (or more accurately northeast) which would've been about 7-9 years ago.
I've emailed her, she is wonderful! If they were cheaper I'd get one a day, I'm seriously addicted
Back OT - how did CFA there ever pass zoning? I know covid made a mess of things but parking there was bad prior too.
I've eaten there a couple of times. It was eh. Long waits and I didn't think it was spectacular.
The parking there meets the town’s standards. It’s just that the Chik fil la building has some very popular restaurants that attract a lot of people to the spaces in front of that building. Another problem was the center was built in stages so there was insufficient parking for the first section which had the Chick fil la.
That said the layout of that center leaves much to be desired. I avoid it at lunch and dinner time. Jay
On today's morning commute, WEBE 108's news update mentioned this and how the plans do call for a drive thru system to prevent backflow, similar to the other store. So it's on the books.
That site was originally a Howard Johnson’s. I know they weren’t gourmet but I do miss them. They had great ice cream in their day. One evening my friends and I tried every ice cream place in town. Back then we had a Farm Shop (on the Post Road in Southport), two Dairy Queen’s (Post Road and Black Rock Turnpike), a Carvel (next to McDonald’s on the Circle) and a Friendly’s (on Black Rock Turnpike). We determined Hojo’s, as Howard Johnson’s was commonly called, was the best. Too funny. Jay

I remember Howard Johnsons as a kid, sure, among others.
Bob remembers HoJo too. He helped the Amazins win the series back in 86

It's actually approved for a 4th building to the side of the back one.
Not sure if it will happen though.

The first free standing CFA in MA was opened in 2012 in Chicopee. Before that, two were in malls in MA and 1 in a mall in NH. As I noted, typically CFA corporate owns the buildings and equipment. Being in a mall probably gave them the ability to be in the market with little investment.
