They have been installing fiber in the Hartford area, don't know about Fairfield county.
They are in parts of Fairfield county now. Plus they have installed all new fiber. So should be more reliable and fast.

Gonetspeed and the new Frontier fiber optic are only available in areas that have above ground utilities. If you have underground utilities, you're out of luck (I fall into that category, unfortunately.) I've heard nothing but rave reviews of Gonetspeed.

The few lucky Altice/Optimum customers who have their Fiber-to-the-Home ("FTTH") service aren't impacted, but that new technology isn't widely available. FTTH is only in select neighborhoods within Stamford, Norwalk, Westport and Fairfield. FTTH technology is significantly faster and much more reliable than coaxial cable technology, as well as DSL (older internet technology that Frontier acquired when they purchased AT&T's U-Verse system.

In the Internet Service Provider enthusiast community, Altice/Optimum's FTTH deployment has been slow and atrocious dating back to the pre-pandemic days. It's true that service quality has drastically declined since the Altice acquisition. They currently have no known plans to lay fiber in Bridgeport, Stratford, Milford and Orange (and non-shoreline towns). We're all currently stuck with the older coaxial cable technology that's getting the speed reductions noted in the OP.

Honest is only in Stamford, according to their Instagram. I had never heard of them until now, but it seems they resell FTTH service (which is not a bad thing).

Frontier has begun to aggressively lay fiber for FTTH service throughout Connecticut towns including Middletown, Manchester, Milford, Derby, Ansonia and East Haven to name a few towns.

GoNetSpeed is another FTTH provider who's begun rolling out throughout parts of Connecticut. They publicly publish Google maps on where they're available and where they're planning (or currently are) deploying fiber.

Here's the link to their Fairfield County map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...850000001&z=10

Here's the link to their New Haven County map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...264257812&z=10

Here's the link to their Hartford County map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...2.7262075&z=10

Besides FTTH, 5G is another internet technology that will offer another service choice for consumers. T-Mobile offers a "Home" package that's $50/month flat that offer comparable (and sometimes better) speeds than Altice/Optimum. It's not quite available in many parts of CT but it's inevitable.

Starlink is another option that's supposed to become more available throughout CT later this year. They use low-orbit satellites to transmit internet signals, and also promises competitive speeds and pricing to that of Altice/Optimum.

Bottom line is that cable coaxial providers like Altice are milking their money as best they can before a mass exodus happens. HURRAY COMPETITION (finally)!!!
Do you have any intel on Verizon fiber?

I also heard Cox has it available in areas of Glastonbury, not sure if it's business only.

I have Cox and have no issues. It was between them and Frontier and to be frank the customer service I was talking to said fiber wasn't an option even though the site said it was and then she broke wind?!? I use the internet and some streaming, nothing too crazy. I have an antenna for a backup for some locals and bought a blu ray player ($8 at a thrift shop) and have a collection of probably 50 DVD/blu rays. Pretty much set for entertainment and news if it goes down.

Optimum has been problem free for me. Pretty fast. My only complaint is that they raise the rate, then I have to call the cancellation line and get it lowered again. I'd rather just deal with a good flat rate.

I feel bad for my parents. They've switched between Frontier and Spectrum, which is all they can get, and both have been awful.

Optimum has been terrible for us. We tried to get faster speeds and then our speeds didn't change and it took us months of calling and threatening to switch (the only reason we didn't is because at the time there were no other options) to get back to the original rate. Now that we can... see you later Altice.

Cablevision / Optimum wasn't THAT bad.

That’s insane. I’m sick of dealing with cable and tv problems. It shouldn’t be so difficult. Optimum has terrible service. Everyone I know that has them, hates them. The problem is there are no good alternative for most. Jay

I have but hate Optimum. I do not care about losing channel 8.

We have too few "all in one" quality options in southern Ct.
