That should be against the law. It's not illegal because the Hartford TV market is a weird one geographically (due to having so many similarly sized cities close by instead of one big central city, it is kind of unique within the US but an even much bigger version of this is the Rhein-Ruhr complex in Germany) where the ABC affiliate (WTNH) is 30+ miles away from the other local stations in Hartford (with Springfield, MA having another ABC affiliate so people in between New Haven and Springfield get one station or the other).

This produces the quirk of FFC being in the NYC TV market, so someone in Stratford can be denied channel 8 by their cable provider, even though channel 7 is at least 4 times farther away. Just one town (and county) over in Milford the reverse would be allowed, 8 would be forced to stay legally but 7 could be dropped.

By the way, I usually hate seeing old threads get bumped, but this was a perfect example of correctly doing so vs creating a new thread.

The rules of this forum requires the use of existing threads before starting a new thread. I try to be lenient on this but it is the rule that must be followed. JayCT, Moderator

Optimum plans with currently advertised upload speeds of 35 megabits per second will be reduced to between 5 and 20 megabits per second, depending upon the customer’s current speed tier.

Those speeds are abysmal. Is "hybrid fiber coaxial cable" just marketing gibberish for DSL? Which is outdated tech that needs to die already.

Is Optimum the equivalent to Frontier in some parts of the state? The alternative to Comcast or Cox in certain towns? Anyone who chooses DSL internet is shopping at the Dollar Store to begin with.

Nah, DSL is over phone lines. Optimum is over coax cable lines. Hybrid fiber just means it's fiber to a point, then copper from there to homes.

Frontier and Optimum co-exist in many towns, like Milford. I have Frontier now and it's fiber. 1G/1G. It's OK. Their customer service kinda stinks, so I may switch to GoNetSpeed.

I have had no issues with Optimum online speeds and have never needed to contact customer service for anything. They just upgraded to fiber recently in the area.
With that being said, once the YES Network goes direct to consumer, possibly this spring they're saying, Optimum will be getting one and only one call from me - Cancel service.

My guess is in 5-10 years Optimum/Altice will be out of the TV business and be strictly an ISP.

I bet Optimum internet-only is not that much cheaper then the internet/basic tv package. Is it?
