I do. They knew the airport was there.

Agreed. The airport has been in operation since 1931.

I know a few people who live in that neighborhood. One friend who lives a block from the terminal loves it and doesn't mind a little noise a few times a day. Another friend on the East Haven side is in favor of expansion too.

People believe that neighborhood is universally against expansion, which isn't true.

Some notable New Havenites live in the area-- The President of SCSU, for instance.

It's GREAT for the city. I hope they don't throw up too many roadblocks. (planeblocks?)

Bradley airport is worried that now they have competition

Should they add JFK shuttle, Boston shuttle, fights to Pittsburgh, Upstate New York, Northern New England, Ashville, NC ?

Scanlon confirmed that Puerto Rico is a “top priority future destination for us.” Tweed was recently awarded a federal grant of $800,000 for a “minimum revenue guarantee” and associated marketing program to recruit, initiate and support potential routes to San Juan, Atlanta and Charlotte, N.C.

CT has a sizable Puerto Rican community and many people with partial Puerto Rican descent. Many still have family on the island. A flight to Puerto Rico could work.

I would be very excited to have Avelo add some Puerto Rico flights.

It's on their road map --- after the runway extension. The current runways are too short to facilitate an aircraft carrying the amount of fuel necessary to get to San Juan.

Though in this week's article, Tweed's Scanlon hinted that Avelo might do San Juan even before runway extension which seems questionable to the Bradley airport official...

”A320s can reach San Juan”

Agreed, but Avelo is flying 737s out of New Haven and they can do full flights to their 14 destinations which are shorter distances then to Puerto Rico (prior 737s with United used to have weight restrictions on flights to Chicago from New Haven in the 90s; I believe these next generation 737s can do what the older ones could not). From what I've read there is speculation as to whether they can fly them full from New Haven's current runway to overseas Puerto Rico. I'm not sure if the issue is FAA regulations related to flying distances over water or if it is literally an issue of distance, based on the runway length. The Tweed rep Scanlon seemed to state in the article that it could be done.
