Lamont has not abused his powers that I see and unfortunately there are too many ready to politicize this. That does no one any good. Have patience people. Jay
This is for everyone BESIDES Jay.

Do you know why they call it the NOVEL Coronavirus?

Novel means it is NEW and they don't really know what is going to happen yet with Covid-19 and all the changes that may occur now and into the future.

He’s speaking to public messaging that pushes for more vaccinations. Pretty straightforward.
I'm far right on Covid, but not that far. If I was that far I wouldn't get a shot, right? Of course it's real and I'm fully vaccinated. If you're concerned get a shot. If you're elderly or have health complications, get a shot and wear a mask, by all means do so.
If you're a masquerade baller, that's fine too, just don't chastise others and I'll quietly roll my eyes.

, and what does being cautious have to give with giving a governor totalitarian powers? We are past the crisis point of covid. 44 statewide in hospital is not even close to sufficient to extend this government overreach. St Vincent's most likely had more than 44 a year ago.

Well said (as was your previous one, the one where you had to change the Governor's name )

What scares me a lot more is if all the new and fast growing cases among the unvaccinated produce a new variant that truly and fully defeats the vaccines and we did all that for nothing and are back at square one

That would be pretty frustrating wouldn't it? And since the majority of people (but unfortunately a little more than a bare majority at least nationally, locally it's better) did the right thing to get us past this, I can just imagine the social unrest that will happen with that. I pray I'm wrong.....

What is “the right thing”? There’s been too many trial and errors for anyone to say for certain what “the right thing” is.

Nobody knows. That's a big part of the problem with Covid. It's new and no one yet really understands it and what it can do. If we knew, we wouldn't be so bothered about it. But it's unpredictable and each new variant seems to carry new risks. How would you like to need a lung transplant from having Covid? How would you like to become permanently disabled from Covid? If we knew that it would stop and that there would never be any new variants and severe after effects, we could just relax about it. I hate this just as much as anyone but saying it's just about over and things are so much better doesn't make it better.

Most of the world isn't even vaccinated meaning there's lots of room for more variants to develop. If you want someone to tell you nursery rhymes and fairy tales, then fine. But if you read the news in other parts of the world, especially where the Delta variant is raging and other new variants are always emerging you can see the truth. This is not a bed of roses, much as we'd like it to be. It is far from over.

We are not the rest of the world. Operation Warp Speed worked, we have a giant vaccination rate, and, not coincidentally, we have just 44 state residents in the hospital due to Covid. I am confident we can both keep an eye on the variants effects on Ct and also recognize the worst of Covid is behind us.

At this point it has been extensively studied. More than most respiratory viruses could ever dream of!

And yeah, we all know what novel means.
