Otherwise, the rest of the cities are pretty nice and safe for the most part. Yes each city has their bad areas but that’s just a fraction and every city in the world has its bad and unsafe areas.

New Haven, Stamford, Norwalk, and Danbury are all great cities and for the most part fairly safe.

Bridgeport used to be a dump, but it’s really getting a lot better. It definitely has its bad areas still but I’d say about 50% of the city is unsafe and the other 50% is good.
CT's 100K+ majors are solid. We all know Stamford and New Haven's reps. Hartford has a very attractive DT and Bridgeport has momentum. There's no Bostons and Miamis but we'll take it.
Someone would be hard pressed though to name me another state in the nation that can match up with our wonderful collection of smaller cities/large towns, however you want to classify, in the 50-100K range. All of them, every single one. Really amazing!

Best of luck

I hope the OP's son can pull this off, and if not, in 5 years it may be easily doable once he goes from entry level IT salary levels to having a few years of experience, and I hope, many certs as it is highly valued in IT.
Union Station has a free downtown shuttle

We both need top speed internet plan, but I can choose provider, she can't. I wish Direct tv were still large, and had joined with AT&T internet as they wanted to. Loved their tv service. Had them in Tn a decade. Best customer service ever. If they were that size with combo plans, I'd use Direct TV. Price increases were miniscule with them.

Glad OP's son can chop internet some. Trick is getting a large enough salary and modest enough rental to make it all work.

Keep us posted, OP.
Too tier Optimum Internet is not $140. She must be paying for cable/phone too.

You can get the special now for gig internet for $60. When it goes up, threaten to cancel and they lower it again. I’ve never paid over $80. DirecTV can’t compete with fiber for Internet.

Thanks, but I actually preferred my nice walk home and to the train- I needed the exercise, and no cost at all.

I do know, post covid, the wait is gone, for good. I was surprised at how they cleaned the building out on the New York bound side.

How do they buy into a threat to cancel when her complex allows just Optimum and they know it?

My solution and I told her is get on Housing Board, and influence what is allowed.

I'm not an Optimum fan, but our other choices are worse IMO. I retain Optimum TV mainly for SNY & the YES Networks.

Did not know. That may help OP's son assuming he can get an apartment he can afford downtown, and a job offer first.

Right, they basically have a monopoly and they damn well know it.
I cut the cord years ago. I couldn't believe I had to "reattach the cord" this year for the YES Network because all the streamers dropped it. What a waste that was, would have saved me all the aggravation of watching a horrible team.

I betcha those cancellation service reps have no idea. Just try it.

Btw, they jacked my 500 gig to a whopping $90 with taxes before I got it down again. That’s as high as it goes. 500 is enough for almost anyone unless you’re streaming 4k movies to 10 TV’s at a time.

I use the max gig plan due to work. With the train fare savings, I prefer ease of mind for a small cost, and I have no interest in premium cable channels, so save there , too.

Will tell her to give it a shot.

For Zoom calls and the like even 500gb is overkill. But you do you! I’m going to get gig fiber because it’s so cheap.
