Probably the taxes would be higher in Fairfield if the county still had a government but probably not as much as you think.

That is because the biggest tax bill in New York is not the county, or the city/town or some local government like a village, it is school taxes.

In other words, the real problem on the local level in New York is not county or any other tax, it is the school taxes.

The other aspect is regional authorities, commissions and agencies can add up. Towns don't always sewer systems or water, transit, retirement etc. I'd argue if MDC didn't exist Hartford would be Atlantis.

CT local taxes have public schools embedded, I believe more than half I could be wrong, and yet still lower than WC and LI. They just don't call it a seperate school tax.

CT has less government corruption, less corruption = lower taxes.

In most of the Europe prop taxes are 1/50 of US prop taxes (yet better schools on average) - because they are really good at efficiency and controlling the government corruption.

Huh? European governments outsourced military spending largely to the USA during the cold War, that way they had enough to spend on social programming. They is plenty of corruption in the EU. Italy alone..

CT lower taxes? Compared to what? No limit on taxes or spending (mass does) anything is cheaper than ny

Your comment is irrelevant and misleading.

Most European primary and secondary schools are funded by their federal government, not local property taxes.

Germany: "To ensure that it is accessible to all, the German federal government funds primary, secondary, vocational and higher education in Germany. "

France: Teachers in France work for the Ministry of National Education. They are Federal employees.

Compared to NY, as it says in the OP’s first post. That said, it’s widely known CT has some of the highest tax rates in the country so you do have a point.

You are so fixated on the word corruption. Why are you still here?

"I don't think anything can be done, this is a country of corporations, they get 1st priority in what works for them, and such corrupt state as IL is will never listen to your problems - so much for ”democracy”."

"IL is not just the most corrupted state, they now openly run toll scam! [...] Where do I complain about these f..g crooks? Or they now do anything they like, like a mafia?"

"The main reason the US is quickly becoming a 3rd world country - politics is completely corrupted, big money rule everything including law making, there's no real freedom of speech and democracy:"

European property tax is lower but you have to look at total tax burden (which is usually much higher than US, except maybe Switzerland). I’ll say, they do tend to get a lot for their tax dollar.
