I'll start. Did not think I'd like the Greek Spot in Milford, but IMO, it is superb.

On an oldie list, I never expected to like Milford's Captains Catch, but I do. It just re-opened the dining area-yah!

Back in the day, I really liked Marino’s in Torrington. Italian places are a dime a dozen in that area and it stands out in my mind as a good one.

Today I don’t go to restaurants much, so I stick to the ones I know I will like

I am stubborn about checking on Yelp/Google for reviews first, so it’s pretty rare.

One I remember that unfortunately shut down was Beer Collective in New Haven. I came for the beer but was blown away by the food. Blew away my expectations.

Another unexpected one was Atticus. Who knew an unassuming bookstore would have incredible food?

I was surprised by how good Mike's Italian Deli in Milford was, also.

I was iffy on Barcelona but it was excellent. Food, ambience, aesthetics, all top notch. The chicken pimientos was outstanding. The Spaniards give the Italians and French a run for their money.

How would you compare Mike's Italian Deli to Fratelli's in Milford? Just curious.

One is a restaurant and one is a deli. Totally different.

Mama Teresa's in Milford is one that comes to mind. I think they have a number of good pasta dishes.
Seven Sea's in Milford. Looked like a complete dive. Is a complete dive. Great burgers and fish n' chips.
Mama Chow's in Southport. Chinese street fare didn't sound appetizing-- but good stuff.

I prefer Mike's, but both are excellent. Despite the restaurant/deli difference. I think Mike's sausage is amongst best i have had, other than Belmont (2nd Little Italy) of NYC. I consider Mike's food restaurant quality. Yes it sure looks like a deli.

Have you been to Grimaldi’s? My fav deli in CT. And there’s some good ones.
