Another vote for Hopkins Inn at Lake Waramaug! Nobody mentioned Mill on the River in South Windsor; I have never been so can't vouch for it. If only Cobbs Mill Inn was still in operation... sigh, that was pretty much a perfect spot with excellent food. No water but the Mayflower Inn in Washington is superb. I've read that it is supposed to be a great foliage year, so hopefully it will be gorgeous wherever you go!

I also came here just to suggest the Hopkins Inn. I've been there before and it was excellent. It also doesn't get much more scenic than that,

The other good thing about a place like Hopkins Inn is that they are used to large parties and can accommodate them well. It’s really a classic/traditional destination and the drive there will be gorgeous. It’s not as inventive as a place like Arethusa, but I would argue that it caters to a broader variety of tastes.

One consideration since you're in Southington would be a spot in northwest CT. There's some great restaurants up there. Not necessarily on water but great foliage looks. Examples would be Arethusa Al Tavolo, Community Table. Excellent foodie stops. Not cheap though, and reservations might be tricky.

Also I may be biased, but OSA in Middletown is close to wedding and absolutely excellent. It's in an urban setting on Main St. but has a really cool vibe and decor. Food is outstanding and not too pricey, and I'd bet they'd be ecstatic to accomodate. There are scenic areas nearby for your river fill.

Another thought would be OTTO/River Tavern in Chester. No river, but an incredibly beautiful spot.
I agree with you about Millwright. I believe it has consistently been listed as one of the best restaurants in the state. Jay

I was thinking of Mill on the River in South Windsor too but I haven’t been there in years so I can’t vouch for its food or service.

I will say I used to love Cobbs Mill Inn. It was the classic converted mill restaurant. It was stunning. I remember going there with family visiting from out of the country. We were sitting in the bar on the lower level right next to the falls when out of the rock outcropping right outside the window popped a raccoon. It startled our family because they never saw a raccoon that close. The guy just looked at us with big eyes and tilted it’s head as if to say “Who the heck our you?” It was a wonderful experience for everyone and still talked about to this day in our family. Jay
