Looking for a good scenic spot with either mill or river view and good foliage view for mid-Oct. Wedding is over early afternoon and want to bring 20 or so people to dinner. Good food is must. I saw Brushmill in Chester but looks closed. Thanks.

Millwright’s might be best bet IF you can even get a reservation that big. I’d call now.

Chester spot temp closed. Covid infection maybe?

Foundry in Newtown and Stonebridge in Milford are both on rivers/waterfalls. Both are good, not overly impressive food wise. Riverview Seymour, nice spot, meh food.

Maybe Green Door in Collinsville? Gelston House East Haddam? Blue Oar? Never been to those.

There’s a lot of lovely spots but the whole river thing is a tough request.

Lake View Restaurant in Coventry has terrific views. It's about 45 minutes.

The Hopkins Inn in Warren has beautiful mountain views, though it's about 50 minutes. Also about 50 minutes but with pleasant brookside views is The White Horse in New Preston.

And, you can always have good river views if you're on the river. This place does dinner cruises on the CT River through October:

I second the recommendations for both Hopkins Inn (which does have a view of the water) and Gelston House

I'd say Millwright's is quite a bit above the rest for great food. Next rung would be Foundry, Stonebridge, Brushmill. Then you're paying for more view than food with most of the rest (just check out reviews).

One consideration since you're in Southington would be a spot in northwest CT. There's some great restaurants up there. Not necessarily on water but great foliage looks. Examples would be Arethusa Al Tavolo, Community Table. Excellent foodie stops. Not cheap though, and reservations might be tricky.

Also I may be biased, but OSA in Middletown is close to wedding and absolutely excellent. It's in an urban setting on Main St. but has a really cool vibe and decor. Food is outstanding and not too pricey, and I'd bet they'd be ecstatic to accomodate. There are scenic areas nearby for your river fill.

Another thought would be OTTO/River Tavern in Chester. No river, but an incredibly beautiful spot.
