I wouldn’t be surprised, because the impoverished are simply not leaving to go out of state. Do you realize the expense of moving hundreds of miles away? It would be half a year’s salary for them.

Show me evidence that those in poverty are leaving Connecticut.

This is going to derail the thread so no. Trust me - I'm well versed on the affects of poverty. Fin.

Now back to the topic about the list. Thanks!

No, not really. We’re discussing reasons New Haven didn’t make this list. Those in generational poverty leaving the city is absolutely on topic. I’ll wait for your source.

I provided a (read: not the) reason why New Haven got off the list (housing construction - tax base growth, which the City knows must be a top priority besides public safety).

No one is saying most folks in intergenerational poverty are moving out of state - it does and have happened, just not the majority.

Not going to get into a tit for tact with someone keen on poking non-topical holes here.

You listed it as among the top reasons.

Listen, if you’re going to make claims, have data to support it. Don’t segue.

Somebody put out an APB for DannyK, he needs to chime in here, this is right up his alley, if anyone can set the record straight it's him.

If Stratford cracks the top 25 out of 169 as most distressed, I'd call that pretty impressive for the state. Life in The Meg is good
And East Haven too, Managgia!! Eh ma fuggedebotta!

Exactly - The worst parts of the South Side of Chicago is much larger in area than New Haven and Bridgeport combined, but CT cities are just. the. worst. It's ok to look around the around sometimes and see that on balance, we're ok, we need to do better, but we're ok.

Wonder why New Haven didn’t make list but the other cities with poverty issues did. Tax base?
New Haven doesn’t look as slummy like certain areas in Hartford, Bridgeport, Waterbury where see abandoned houses, factories, trashy streets, bomb level off the area. Fair Haven, Newhallville, The Hill, Dixwell doesn’t have that look but it still pretty bad.
