We are making the drive from Long Beach to CT sometime in the next few months. We are renting a motor home to haul 2 kids, 2 or so adults, 2 cats and 2 dogs. I wanted to fly but it is just too much drama. I think this, although prolonged, will allow for ease of travel - or at least I hope so. We will stop at motels at night, but I just think it will be easier for the pets overall.

Another good hotel chain to check out is the residence Inn they usually take pets and the hotel rooms are HUGE (aka if you get a suite which isn't that expensive you can easily fit 4 people comfortably). Just do your research before you drive and you'll end up doing just fine Oh and make sure since it's tornado season to plan your route accordingly.

We moved from FL to CT last summer, with two kids (10 and 3) and two dogs, either if which was not used to the car. The dogs (and the kids) did great. We stopped every 1 to 2 hours to let them out on a leash, removed the middle seat from our van and shipped it in the movers' truck, so the dogs had plenty of room to lay down, which they did happily. Each had their own cot in the car, the same they slept on at home, their chewable toys (the younger one), treats for when they went back to the car after their break, and a bowl of water. We checked into hotels which allowed pets (more easy to find than you may think.) In a few words, it was not a bad experience at all, considering that we are not troopers, we like it pretty easy and comfortable when we travel....
