My son told his father that he wants him to take him fishing tomorrow. Does anyone know where he can take him? We live in the Danbury area so we would want something close by. Also, my husband can't swim and this worries me so it has to be safe so my son won't fall in.....we were thinking of Ball Pond in New Fairfield but not sure if it has a safe place to fish. I don't want it to be where they are on the edge and he can easily fall in..I know I am worried but I won't be there since I have a very active 2 year old to then worry about as well. Someone also mentioned Tarrywile in Danbury but I am not sure if you have to be a resident there. Anyone have any suggestions?

You don't have to be a resident of Tarrywile to enjoy the facility, but I don't know of a place to fish there - I could be wrong though.

There is lake Kenosha between the mall and Mill Plain Rd where I often see folks fishing - it is very close to a busy road however (Kenosha Ave) and right next to I-84 so it wouldn't be too relaxing!

Check out Candlewood and see if there are any public fishing holes. I personally am not sure but I would imagine there has to be many. I know Southford Falls state park in Southbury/Oxford (about 20 minutes from Danbury) has a fully stocked pond to fish in. Beautiful surroundings also.

Thanks! The Southbury one sounds awsome! We might have to check that one out. Someone I just spoke to just told me that Meckauer Park in Bethel has a pond that you can fish in. We don't want to keep them-they'll go back in the pond. I think for a 6 year old just to see what it is like it might be okay

Great, hope they have fun. Do check out Southford Falls though - great hiking, picnicking and in the cold winter months, ice skating. There are also hiking trails with an old covered bridge crossing from Southbury into Oxford. Kent Falls is another option. Beautiful park.

Can you swim at any of these places? I am moving back to CT and will be working on Route 7 in Ridgefield. I'd love to find a lake to swim in during the hot summer.

So my Hubby took my son to Meckauer Park today and he caught a fish! He was so excited. There were lots of others there as well. He had a real good time...

There are many nice areas of Candlewood Lake - I'm not sure which are private and which are public so you'd have to do a little research (anyone know?). Squantz Pond is public but can be crowded on the weekends with inner-city kids from the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, etc.
