That house is located in Spring Glen, one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Hamden. It’s been completely redone and you are near Lake Whitney, the New Haven Country Club, the Hamden Dog Park and Moretti Field. It’s pretty nice. Plus you aren’t far from stores and New Haven. It does seem high but I don’t think it’s “Crazy High”.

Yea it's high when you could go to a neighboring town with lower mill rate and higher rated schools and get a 3-4 bedroom with more square footage for a price 400-500k (Cheshire, North Haven, Wallingford etc.). I would not want to be in Hamden with their budget issues and taxes.

Well I’m shocked.

I just saw that a former coworker’s house has sold for $77,000 over asking. While the house had a nice expanded and updated kitchen and is located in a nice neighborhood (Buttonball), it’s older and lacked a family room and a separate master suite with a bathroom. We looked at the house years ago and didn’t like it. It was a funny coincidence when I found out that he and his wife bought it when we worked together a few years later. Still shocking they got that much for it. The Glastonbury real estate market is still red hot.

I agree with you but there are some that love Hamden and Spring Glen in particular.

Home prices are a function of what people can and are willing to pay for a home. In a free market like ours there is little anyone can do about it. It’s just how it works.

True to a point, but just like there things like monopolies that can mess up the free market, there are some dynamics here doing the same:

1) Extreme NIMBYism prevent the amount of new housing to meet demand to be built.

2) As someone else mentioned on here, the phenomenon of Boomers and older Gen Xers who have a paid up house and kids grown and left who would like to downsize to a condo, etc. but can't because even selling it at a premium in today's market they wouldn't be able to afford the "downsizing" so they're stuck where they are in far more home than they need.
