But that's $6.9 million not being spent on improving their public schools or maintaining the city's infrastructure.

Well I hope that the shelter will help long-time New Haven residents first.

I mean, the city spends a solid chunk on schools already. 20k per student, nearly half a billion a year. Think a lot of the school problems are socioeconomic and not funding related.

Yeah I mean who the hell do these loser lowlife poors and degenerate working class bottom feeding scum think they are getting any help from New Haven. They get to live it up in a rat and roach infested apartments or a beautiful city sidewalk or back alley while the rest of us have to suffer in squalor in a suburban home. The gall of these people!

Are you completely self made? Did you attend public school? Do you drive on public roads? Ever used town services? Use the Post Office? Ride Amtrak?

Maybe we're tired of paying for you.

I know, right? tell me about it Riff. Life in CT is a living hell. While I'm stuck watching sunsets on LI Sound every night, these pond scum rejects get to live in a lap of luxury waking every morning to the sweet aromas of rodent droppings. It's just not fair goddammit.

Excellent post.

Btw, IMO closed churches should either have to house the homeless or be taxed on the full basis of private personal property. I say that as someone who went to church for decades, and being closed violates the intent of their special tax status. Hence, the exemption should either be removed or be replaced by another reason to grant them tax exempt status.
