The whole article is terrible from using two of the smallest arenas, splitting time in locations, new arena in Enfield. The logo. It’s all terrible and NBA basketball would be a harder sell in CT than hockey would. Hockey live is wonderful. Basketball in the regular season is 100% start driven. When the crap teams are in town it would be impossible for people to care.
The Hearst empire has really ruined local journalism in a lot of CT.

True that. Centralized and consolidated every newspaper. Barely any local news anymore. Every edition looks the same just with different banner. Very sad.

Is Hearst that stupid? Journalism is in a sorry state.
The fact that they are reporting it doesn't necessarily mean they believe it's going to happen. one guy is going around saying he's trying to make it happen is still news. John Rowland once declared the Patriots were on their way to Hartford! That was also a lunatic fantasy but was the media not supposed to report his mad ravings?

The Pats were kicking the tires on moving then. In this case, just like in the Coyotes case, there was no interest from the team or leagues involved.

On the bright side, we are not far from NY pro sports venues, and even Boston is a doable road trip for most.

Except it wasn’t a “lunatic fantasy” or “mad ravings”. It was a quick signature away from being a reality. The Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, backed out at the very last minute. It couldn’t have been closer.

I agree with the Pats if Massachusetts had not appeased Kraft, we had a true chance to get the Pats (my hunch is bonding for the new stadium would have to have been approved for finalization, plus all owners consent).

I do think btw it was Kraft's preferred outcome, to have Ma appease him.

An owner cannot finalize any deal, as it requires league consent, and the NFL preferred the Pats stay put also, btw. Since the Whalers left, that was as close as we ever got to getting another Big 4 team. I am confident we will not get that close again in our lifetimes.

Yeah, the Pats were a legitimate possibility. I thought it was the contaminated lands of the proposed stadium site that nixed the deal.
