Hey all, getting tired of the same old grocery store selection of meats and their inferior cuts. Is there any good butcher shops around the milford area? Hell I'd even drive 30mins for a good steak every once in a while.

Thumbs down Stew Leonard's

Before anybody jumps on and suggests Stew Leonard's, i'll tell you not to waste your time.
They were good up until a few years ago, now the quality is uneven and they really have some serious moxie(IMO) to put out their roasts with ridiculous amounts of fat(which you pay for). But, they will cut it for you, for free. Yeah.

I have always found Stews in Norwalk to have a nice selection, and didn't notice any decline of the quality in recent years. That said, smaller butcher shops do normally have a better cut. Stews is much better than Shaws, SS, etc though. JMO

I'm not a fan of supermarket meat either, but if you like ribeye, try stop&shop's. Their ribeye is a surprisingly good piece of beef.

Great, thanks. I'll have to try it.

If you ever make it to Wilton, try Zeytinia’s. It's in the same plaza as Outback on 7 - excellent quality. I often go there, but they aren't cheap so I limit it to special occasions.

I would not recommend Second Street butcher in Monroe, they are extremely expensive and the filet mignon we bought from them was so riddled with sinew it could have been stew beef. We prefer Stew Leonard's. Stop N Shop sometimes has good meat, too.

If you really want to drive The Watertown Meat Center, in of course,Watertown, is great. Best fillets we've had up here and at 13.99 a pound quite a bargain.

Ever since I picked up meat at this "International Meat Market" or something like that on Madison Ave in Bridgeport, I'm Hooked with a Cap H.
I'm an immigrant and I'm used to entirely fresh meats & this place comes the closest. Their chicken is out of this world, beef is soooo flavorful, even their ground meat is heavenly, etc They are a Halal store.. And their prices are not "specialty store" prices though it's not cheap neither. They also sell lamb and goat.
I'd be happy to get the number and address if interested. Call ahead before going, as they have some crazy store hours for the meat department.

There's a nice Italian importer, Sorrento's, at the corner of Madison and
Capitol Ave. Difficult parking, though.
If you could give us the name of the place, or a general idea of where on Madison Ave., i'd appreciate it. TIA.
