My wife and I may have an opportunity to relocate to New London from Texas. Does any one have any suggestions on where to live or any other words of wisdom? We don't have any kids in school so that is not an issue.

There are some nice towns in the New London-Groton area. New London itself is an old Maritime port dating from around 1645- it was involved in the Molasses trade in the 18th century, and later became a whaling center. The city of 26,000 has had some issues like crime (though not to bad) and some not so nice neighborhoods. There is a concerted effort to improve the city, and make it into an historical center for tourism, especially for large cruise ships and more.

Groton is the home of the US Sub base- and is a military town of 46,000. Nearby Waterford is nice- as is the census designated place of Gales Ferry. Mystic another 'census designated' place- which is part of the towns of Groton and Stonington is quite charming just to the east.

Also nearby Niantic (on Long Island Sound) and East Lyme should be considered.

It all depends on how much you want to spend for a home- there are differences in prices for real estate- some towns can be very pricey compared to Texas standards, especially those near the coast.

Skytrekker is correct with his sugestion. East Lyme is a mice but very small town. Please note though that Niantic is a part of the Town of East Lyme.

The southeastern part of Connecticut is made up of generally small more rural type towns. Depending what you are looking for, there should however be a place to your liking. If you provide information on what you like, we may be able direct you better. Jay

Default Relocation New London

We plan to rent until we figure out where we want to live for sure. We need at least two bedroom and two bathroom. Don't want to do much remodel as we have been there and done that!

Well its hard to say oldawg

Frankly, rentals in Groton near the Pfizer Campus will be very nice- there will be standard garden style apartments, townhouses and duplexes. Homes for rent are more likely to be in Mystic, Stonington, Waterford, and Old Lyme.

Have you utilized craigslist?
