Hi,

We may be moving to Connecticut for my husband's job. He'll be working in Bristol and doesn't want to far of a commute. We have 3 young children, 2 of which are school-aged.

Any suggestions of where to look?

Thanks!

Where in Bristol? If he's near Route 6 on the north side of town, then Farmington is a good choice. If he's near the center or south side, Plainville or Southington are good options.

What do you both desire in a town (size, characteristics, shopping, etc.)?

At ESPN, so I guess that's the south west of Bristol.

Our main concern is good schools and low crime. Smallish, "safe" community. A mall would be a plus. Parks. Our kids are 2,4,& 6 and our lives pretty much revolve around them. So I guess I'm looking for the best area to raise a family in.

Thanks for your help!

OK. Right off Route 229. Smallish would all but eliminate Bristol (pop. 60,875). You could focus on Southington and its three hamlets: Marion, Milldale, and Plantsville.

Do you have an established price range? At present, there are 170 single-family properties on the market ranging from $165,000 - $948,000. The median is $365,050.

Actually, we currently live in a city of 424,000, so Bristol is "smallish" by our standards.

We're probably looking in the 200 - 300 range, with a focus on a big yard and family room. We may also look into renting a house in the beginning.

Is Bristol a nice place to live?

For Connecticut, there is nothing even close to 424,000! Our largest is probably 130,000.

I forgot to add before, Plainvile is small. It realys is great town . You will finda Kohls, old navy grocery stores. There are 2 mall swihtin a half hour. Meriden MAll is more kid friendly, an idoor palyground ect. West farms is more up scale.

Your very welocme. Most big stores are a very short drive too. THere is a Wa-MArt in Southington, and it takes me 5 min from Plainville. Plus many stores in between. Plainville has 3 parks, one with a pool. Bristol and SOuthington also have nice parks and form here it take me about 10 min to get to those parks.

It is a small town, but not nosey. I often see people I know when out, we chat and are freindly. Still very few realy know my stuff. Good luck on you move.
