The area closest to St. Mary's is the heart of the ghetto in Waterbury. If you want to live in the city itself you need to live in the outlying areas.

Towns and cities in Connecticut are usually smaller in terms of square miles than they are in Virginia. So, if you're working at St. Mary's, you could also consider some towns around Waterbury and still have a short commute.

Don't live near St Mary's.

The area around Waterbury hospital (town plot) is reasonably safe, as is the Bunker Hill neighborhood. Otherwise, live in one of the surrounding towns. Watertown is nice and very convenient. Naugatuck is generally OK and has a lot of rentals.

The East Mountain section heading into Prospect is nice also. Might be hard to find an apartment though. I'm not sure what the OP is looking for.

Good luck. The Waterbury cops are the most corrupt. They will plant drugs on you and the WORKS. I DARE you even drive through Waterbury in a vehicle with NY license plates. I got pulled over and searched illegally 3 times in ONE DAY. I was going to visit a long time friend from WOLCOTT (which is a neighboring town). I should have never cut thru the neighborhood.

Had somebody told me this i would have never believed them. Southington and Wolcott are like 2 minutes away but what a HUGE difference. Also there is a pill problem (mostly painkillers and heroin). Alot of the inner city kids are all strung out. They sell suboxones and methadone on street corners! Its like a crackhead rehab center out there. The gangs from New York City have branched out to Waterbury. They have REAL Latin Kings NY set leaders. Bloods (mainly goons from Bridgeport and 'homocide hartford' are repping the 5 astro star new york gang. Its crazy how gangs took over. Even the the JAILS are full of new yorkers getting booked out of town. Most people see CT as a untouched gold mine where ppl can easily be pushed over and blocks can be taken easily. It seems like everybody has a gun out there !

Is this what lawyers are telling suspects to say these days?

If a particular police officer has a history of misconduct. Its not uncommon for this practice to occur. They do it mainly when you mouth off , refuse a search, etc. Subsequently the charges are later dropped and your paperwork is 'lost' . You are simply escorted through a backdoor without even seeing a judge. Irregardless of what your innocent mind is trained to believe this does occur daily. Why? Simple. It makes the arresting officer look good. You get detained for 48 hours and released with no charges. Unless you REALLY had drugs on you. Thats a whole other story. I dont wanna stray off topic too much. Lawyers have a list of CCRB complaints from 'problem officers' so you either knew that already or were being totally sarcastic. They call it "THE DIRTY WATERS" aka Waterbury for a reason. It's not for its squeaky clean reputation. Hehe

As long as you avoid the area near the train station & St. Mary's hospital Waterbury isn't THAT bad. Like most of the inner cities in Connecticut, the further you get away from downtown, the nicer the area.

Uh, sorry bud, but detaining someone for 48 hours without any charges filed does not make a police officer "look good". You're delusional.

Frankly, your posts on C-D are bizarre at best:

This is extremely disturbing and speaks volumes to your character. But yeah, it's all the cop's fault, right?

Stay in New York, please.
