Got a ticket using the Merritt Parkway in a motorhome. We are from out of state and was not aware of the restriction. Trooper said that it was posted no commercial vehicle. The motorhome is not a commercial vehicle. Found out later on the height and length restriction. Only saw a sign stating no commercial vehicles. Does any one know what signage if any is posted on the on ramps other than no commercial vehicles.
I see ALL types of commercial work vehicles, vans and small trucks on the Merritt constantly; mainly in lower Fairfield county west of the Housatonic Bridge. I also have seen landscapers pulling trailers and other vehicles pulling trailers. I guess all of that is technically illegal on the Merritt?

Yes they are illegal if they have commercial plates. I believe there are waivers issued to construction vehicles working on projects along the highway though. Jay
May I drive a U-Haul van (not a truck) on the Merritt? These are slightly larger than typical family minivans, but fall under the weight and height limitations. Again - van not truck.

Not if they have commercial plates on them. Does not matter the size of the vehicle. Jay

Depends. If the van has commercial plates (which it probably doesn’t), then no. If it has combination plates, it must be under 7,500 lbs.
All U Haul vehicles have Arizona "Apportioned" plates which makes it a commercial vehicle.
