Thanks for your answer Amy - so why is it relatively cheap? This is my first look at Farmington so it seems cheap next to the $500K+++ houses. Is the neighborhood near a busy road, or business district?
There are some commercial establishments in that area...a pediatrician's office on the Rte 4 side (very good practice BTW since we used them), and I believe there's a funeral home in the area. I still won't mind buying there. I think the strip mall where Stop & Shop/CVS is still there and is not a bad area. The homes in the $500K you may have seen are probably on the side where Miss Porter's is, and yes those are lovely very estate-like homes, real wide plank hardwoods. I certainly won't rule out this house by any chance.
The neighborhood is right off of Route 4, which is the main road into Farmington. It's on a little cul-de-sac area though. It's convenient to the grocery store, CVS, etc., without being right on top of it.
The layout of the house is somewhat unique and I believe it was overpriced when it was first listed. I showed it about 2 months ago at this point.
The estate-like homes are near Route 10, near the Miss Porter's school, as bibit mentioned.
violetvale - I know this area pretty well. It is in Unionville which is an older mill village that has a number of older homes in a small urban setting. Bidwell Square is located right off of Route 4 which is a very busy road. I will say that I beleive Unionville is an area that will only get better. Farmington is a very desirable town with excellent schools and Unionville has a charm that is very popular today. The town has worked hard on a plan to improve the village and restore some of that charm that was removed when they redeveloped the area back in the 1960's. There is a new Stop & Shop Supermarket that is being constructed there which should be a catalyst for more redevelopment in the commercial area. I hope this helps. Jay
