Sorry to post another article today, but I think this will be a sight to see if you are in the area.

Great article. What it does not mention is that the American Society of State Highway and Transportation Officals (ASSHTO) will be holding their Annual Meeting in Hartford the weekend of the 17th and the rededication ceromony is a part of their events as well. ASSHTO is one of the most important major professional organizations in the transportation fields and having their meeting in Hartford as part of this is a very important event in the transportation profession. Why not leave it illuminated all the time like other cities do? Oh right...we don't work like many other cities do. Ooops.

Reading that article was sad because it shows me just how far Hartford, Easthartford and many other areas have declined since that bridge was built.
"The town of East Hartford was never so prettily decorated," reported the Gazette. "Every building along Hartford Avenue, and also on Main Street, between Burnside and Garvan streets was gay with flags, bunting, and Japanese lanterns."
Yea, picture that happening today.

Actually I think the intention is to leave the display in place and use it for local "important" events whatever that may be. They can alter the color scheme as needed.

I agree with you that the decline in HTFD and EH is sad, particulalry when you read statements like that. I would be a bit more optimistic though and say that I think the riverfronts on both sides of the river and Main St in EH are both looking much better than in recent years. I can only hope that will continue.
