thank you all for your kindly information. I think I'll go by WH since it's closer to my work. to your question Amybergquist I'm looking for a 3 bedroom 2 bath single house around 250K-280K. again thanks for your help. BTW regarding school I was told Bugbee (if I spell it correctly) is very good then would be Aiken.

That'll be a tough one, though perhaps there are options in Elmwood (preferably west of New Park Ave).

Might be tough in Bugbee at that price range; Aiken may be possible.

A 3 bed, 2 bath house (typically a cape or some version of ranch/split level) in the $250K-$280K range will be tough to find in Bugbee. It is doable in the Aiken area. There are lots of splits, ranches and raised ranches in Bishops Corner. There are also a few options in the Portage Road neighborhood off of Bloomfield Ave (Aiken district). Let's assume the house is around 1600-1700 square feet and is heated with gas. I think you said you have a family of 4.

Cable/tv/phone will be about $120-$150 a month, depending on the cable service that you choose.

Electric will be about $100-$120 a month, without air conditioning.

Gas heat (which would be heating and hot water) would really vary depending on insulation in the house. In the winter months you could figure $350-$500 a month. During the summer months it would be anywhere from $50-$100. It's really going to depend on your usage.

Water is billed quarterly. You're probably looking at $80-$100 a quarter for a family of 4.

There are no separate sewer charges, as it's a town service.

If you want a security system, that runs about $40 a month (typically billed quarterly).

Hope this helps.

Agree...you would definitely find options in the Aiken district. And in my opinion, not compromising on school quality. We've been very happy with Aiken.

If you are still undecided about where you will move, consider avon and simsbury they have very good schools too. Houses are about the same price too, as west hartford.
This is hardly accurate.

To the OP...there are 11 elementary schools in West Hartford, three of them are magnets with focus on three different areas: Norfeldt for Arts, Smith for Math and Science, and Charter Oak for Global Studies. There are currently three middle schools (King Philip, where Bugbee and Aiken feed into, Sedgwick and Bristow Middle), and two high schools (Hall and Conard). Both high schools are performing schools, contrary to the above post.

You may want to engage the services of a local realtor specializing in West Hartford to narrow down your choices. It is difficult to make the decisions you are making from such a long distance, especially when you want to marry a particular elementary school attendance area with a price range.

There are essentially no condos in the Bugbee area, it is just about all (if not all) single family homes.
