We did not "pass" it, the state supreme court legislated from the bench.

My husband says that tax accountants would be happy about this. As long as the feds don't recognize same-sex marriage, tax returns at the federal level will have the partners filing separate returns and joint at the state level. Most tax software feed the state return from info keyed in at the federal level, but because the filing status is different in each preparing a return would take longer and would cost more.

I see a whole new market opening up as well for family law practitioners.

Yes, it's going to be a mess for those who pursue it (same-sex marriage).
